Rethinking Health Benefits – Part 4 of 10

Part 4

Why Has Everything Become Personalized…Except Health Insurance?

Think about the choices we have today.

Netflix recommends shows based on what we watch. Spotify creates playlists based on what we enjoy. Amazon suggests products based on our previous purchases. Even our retirement plans allow us to choose investments that match our personal goals.

In many areas of life, personalization has become the standard.

Yet when it comes to health insurance, many employers still follow a model that looks very similar to the one used decades ago:

  • One insurance company
  • One health plan
  • One decision made for everyone

That raises an important question.

If healthcare itself has become more personalized, shouldn’t employee benefits evolve as well?

Employees do not all have the same medical needs, financial priorities, or provider preferences. A plan that works well for one employee may not be the best fit for another.

As a benefits advisor, I believe employers should have more flexibility, and employees should have more meaningful choice.

The future of health benefits may not be about offering the most expensive plan or adding more complexity. It may be about designing a strategy that helps employers manage costs wisely while giving employees options that better reflect their individual needs.

The goal is not simply to spend more.

The goal is to spend smarter.
