Rethinking Health Benefits – Part 3 of 10

Part 3

Employees Don’t All Value the Same Things

When employers evaluate health insurance, the conversation often starts with one question:

“Which plan costs the least?”

But employees may be asking something completely different:

“Will my doctor be covered?”

That difference matters.

For some employees, keeping the monthly premium low is the priority. Others may care more about hospital networks or access to specific doctors and specialists.

Some may prefer a PPO for greater flexibility, while others may value predictable copays that make healthcare expenses easier to plan.

Some employees may want to contribute to an HSA, while others simply want to continue seeing their current providers or stay on medications that work for them.

There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong answer.

Healthcare Is Personal

Every employee has different healthcare needs, priorities, and circumstances. What works well for one person may not be the right fit for another.

That’s why meaningful choice can be so valuable.

Rather than asking every employee to fit into one plan, employers can consider offering options that better reflect the different needs within their workforce.

Good benefits aren’t about offering the most expensive plan.

They’re about offering the right options.
